FARNAZ   OHADI

Singer. Songwriter. Performer

Latest PERFORMANCE

November 14, 2024

On November 14th, 2024 Farnaz Ohadi opened the 10th Anniversary edition of Duende Festival, in Toronto, Canada to a fully sold out audience and much enthusiasm and success. Farnaz would like to take this opportunity to thank the museum and the festival for the invitation and the honored opportunity.

Accompanied with the world renowned artists including Antonio Najarro she will present ideas from her latest album "Breath".

BREATH is a Persian-flamenco music and dance performance that explores love’s complex emotions — ecstasy, nostalgia, doubt, and healing. Beneath its soft Farsi lyricism and flamenco rhythms lies a loving tribute to Iran’s history since the revolution of 1979. The performance emphasizes self-love as the foundation for making better choices, fostering a love for others, and guiding a collective future. Light will always prevail over darkness and we can facilitate that journey by living authentically with love and all of its nuances.

Follow a woman’s journey through love’s power, healing, and strength as she navigates challenges and heartbreak. Beginning with a spiritual quest (Worship and Resurrection), she plants seeds of hope in the Garden of Love and battles despair in Oriyan.

Despite unrequited love (Lovers Torment), she finds strength, rallying others to celebrate love and light in the Persian Dance. From yearning (Longings) to hope (Erev), anger (Call of the Chain Breakers) to joy (Anda Jaleo), this dance is a powerful tribute to love’s resilience.

Banned from singing in Iran,
Farnaz Ohadi premieres her new Persian Flamenco project “Breath”

An Anthem of Resilience and Freedom to Debut at Aga Khan Museum’s Duende Flamenco Festival on November 14th

1000 years after the first music conservatory was established in Cordoba, by Zaryab (who travelled to Spain from the Persian Empire), Farnaz Ohadi stunningly combines the intricate beauty of Farsi poetry with the passionate rhythms of Spanish flamenco, a celebration of love and resilience despite 45 years of oppression.

Trailblazing Persian-Canadian flamenco artist Farnaz Ohadi will take the stage at the Aga Khan Museum in what is set to be a standout performance at the Duende Flamenco Festival: a courageous statement of defiance, love, and the relentless fight for freedom.

Farnaz’s life is an ode to overcoming adversity. Growing up in a culture where access to performing music was restricted, and passionate styles such as flamenco were banned, she never let these obstacles stop her. Her story is one of determination and empowerment, as she forged her path as an artist in Canada. Her music reflects the struggle for self-expression, and it is no surprise that her work resonates with women around the globe - particularly those in Iran who continue to fight for their basic rights.

"Through the fusion of flamenco’s passion and Persian poetry’s reflection, I aim to give a voice to those who have been silenced for too long. Breath is about reclaiming space, power, and our right to freedom—both as women and as individuals," Farnaz explains.

Join us for the World Premiere of Farnaz Ohadi’s Breath, a live preview of her new album set to be release in March 2025.
